Rubberwood is the right species for a folding frame: dense enough to hold a pivot without crushing, stable enough that the two halves still line up after a season in a warehouse. Pine works and costs less, but take the pivot bush, a bare pine hole ovalises within a year of regular folding.

Will the folding joint loosen?
Not with a steel pin and a nylon bush. The all-wood version, a dowel through a pine hole. Does loosen, and that is the design most of this category ships. Ours is a 6 mm galvanised pin in a bush, cycle-tested a hundred times before release, and the two clips lock both halves so the load never sits on the pivot alone.
Does the customer need tools?
No. It arrives pre-assembled and folded; they stand it up and close two clips. That is the entire assembly, which is why we can promise no missing-hardware tickets on this SKU.
Can it go outside on a balcony?
Yes, with the exterior finish option — penetrating oil rather than lacquer, and stainless pins instead of galvanised. Say so on the order and we build it that way; the standard build is for indoor and covered use.
