What a supply base actually buys you
Buyers routinely ask us to justify a lead time or a price, and the honest answer is geographic. We are not in a general industrial park; we are inside a garden-timber belt in northern Jiangsu, where roughly 600,000 mu of ornamental plant and timber, about a quarter of the province's total — is grown and processed. Around that core sits everything a wooden product needs: sawmills, kilns, ACQ treatment, moulding knives, hardware, screen printers, laser cells, carton plants, ribbon and lining suppliers, and the courier desks that make a 300-piece engraving run viable.
The second consequence is price discovery. Domestic competition here is brutal and public, so our FOB bands on giftware and garden wood usually land under what a factory in a higher-cost province quotes for the same construction. You get that difference as a price, not as a story.

Freight: what the new waterway changed
Before the channel, everything went by truck to Lianyungang or on a long haul to Shanghai, and long timber freight is where damage claims and schedule slips were born. Now we consolidate at the wharf, load at our own gate and barge — which also means a 20'GP is no longer punished by road economics. For buyers this shows up in two places: a tighter lead-time band in the busy March–October window, and a genuine reason to take a mixed container of long-section goods (posts, rafters, moulding bundles) that a road-only factory will price defensively.
We still quote three gates, because destination and product shape decide which is cheapest: Lianyungang (ours, by barge), Shanghai (largest frequency of sailings to the US East Coast), and Ningbo (good for North European transshipment). Tell us the port your forwarder prefers and we price from there.
The weak points, stated plainly
- Grade discipline varies wildly. The same belt that supplies our AA clear stock also sells knotty mixed-run boards into the same container if nobody is looking. We buy against a written grade rule and sort twice, once at the sawmill, once at assembly.
- Poplar and paulownia are soft. Excellent for primed frames and light boxes, wrong for a load-bearing member; we will not substitute them into a structural SKU to win a price.
- Treatment plants are third-party. Their authorisation, not ours, carries the biocide registration, so we name the treatment charge number on your documents instead of claiming credit for it.
- Peak season is real. November (Christmas décor) and February–April (spring garden) stretch lead times by 10–20 days. Order June–October for a spring shelf and the slot is yours.
- Some categories we refuse: hardwood decorative plywood into the US (anti-dumping exposure), kitchen cabinets and vanities (AD/CVD and Section 232), and any rosewood, ebony or agarwood item (CITES Appendix II). That is a legal and commercial fact, not a modesty line.
How to verify us without flying to China
- Ask to see the moulder running your profile. We will schedule a 15-minute live call, unedited, with today's date on a whiteboard.
- Ask for a batch record: timber lot, kiln curve, moisture readings, treatment charge, first-article photo, pre-shipment report under one job number.
- Ask which SKUs are inside TSCA Title VI scope and which are not; a real factory answers instantly, and the answer is a list, not a slogan.
- Order a sample against your drawing before a container. 5–7 days, freight collect, and it tells you more about us than any video.
- Send your own inspector. We charge nothing for SGS, BV or Intertek visits and we will brief their checklist in advance.
